Doll Obsession Cover Illustration

This will be a short post as it is late and I have spent the last 10 hours sat at my desk mind numbling illustrating for a second book project at uni, so please bare with me if I seem a little drained from this post.

Basically, I have finally begun doing my final images for my Doll Obsession project and wanted to put up the cover design I just finished. I am currently sat waiting for it to dry as it is fresh from the printer. I didn't want the cover illustration to be busy as, from my point of view, it would put people off, so I went for a simple one (much like the one already featured) using the original taller BJD cut outs I have done. For the back, same, simple with two of the BJD cut outs, both side view. I then have to create a fake isbn and bar code. The bar code image was off of google and the ISBN is made up, still it fits the criteria I guess so I cant really ask for more :3

I hope you like this, will put more of my final ones up soon. Sadie(Sashie) signing off to sleep finally D8

Dr Sketchy Nottingham - Nightmare Before Christmas

I went to the Nottinghams Dr Sketchy on saturday for the Nightmare Before Christmas themed event and it was fantastic! It was however the perfect thing to make me realise how out of touch with life drawing I was!
It was so difficult to draw the poses in the time limits they gave you, I was so annoyed I used to be so good at life drawing, and not doing it for a year has leeched all my ability away! I best look into some classes methinks, hopefully theres some over the christmas holiday from uni.
I did however, have one picture I wanted to put up, this was a 15 miute sketch of the model who was dressed as Sally, the costume was spot on and over all it was a fantastic and unusual way to spend a saturday. Especially after being snowed in all week, the fresh air was much needed! I look forward to the next Dr Sketchy event!

Hopefully I can keep this kind of style up, I quite like it :)
I also just want to include a quick random sketch I did to ensure I was drawing something other than dolls! it has no title yet, I just really enjoyed drawing it, and it provided the short break I needed from dolls so I didn't go insane!

Doll Illustrations

I have been working on my Doll Obsession Illustrations for roughly eight weeks now and have finally began to find a media in which I am comfortable I can begin creating my final pieces in for the module. I want to feature a few quick scans of recent development work of my hand drawn dolls. They are drawn on cartridge paper, patterned wrapping paper and tracing paper and I have been experimenting with layering and scanning to see how it will look. These are in no way finished pieces, however I am looking forward to seeing where the last few weeks of working on them will take me, considering the amount of the I have drawn is equivalent to that of a small country's army. These little thnigs have taken up alot of my time recently, and I stil need to draw another army size batch of Victorian Dolls and Clothing. Better get to it!

I also experimented on photoshop using typography brushes and vector art for a short time before reurning to hand drawn illustrations, and eventually on to these cut outs. Here are a couple that I enjoyed doing the most.

I still have a ton of work to do on this subject before the deadline so I better get my butt in gear and get some more work done!
Comments apreciated, and thank you for checking this out!

Photographic Illustration

Hello, and welcome to my new Blog.

I wanted a place to feature my illustrations both from University work and my own personl Illustrations. I am also using this as an oppurtunity to try and figure out my own personal voice when it comes to my art. I am still trying to figure out what I do best when it comes to my artwork, so I would apreciate your advice, comments etc. I hope you enjoy my work and will try to regularly update with new stuff!

I want to feature firstly a selection from a series of photogaphic illustrations I created for a 50 word mini saga titiled 'A Boring Story' by Paul Bailey I chose from three available titles on my Uni module. We were only able to use the words featured and had to use purely found or taken photographic images and manipulate them into an illustration that relects the story. I used images found on google, and manipulated them in Photoshop CS5 and CS3. Here are a few of the ones I found to be my favourites after completing the module. All done with higher resolution, large images from google, manipulated and repeated in several different ways to create the characters of the story.

I found it very unusual at first, but after noting down and sketching a few ideas I began to very much enjoy this way of working. It is now finished and ring bound to create the ten double page spreads necessary for submission, and eagerly await the feedback given from it. We will now be working on creating more illustrative books using blocks of colour and limited lines, so am looking forward to another challenge.

Next post will most likely be focused on either typographic illustratrion or biro/pecil sketches inspired by the work of James Jean.

I apreciate any comments given, and thank you for looking at my blog.

Until next time :)
